CLC World Report Summary

From a staffing point of view, 2023 was another challenging year. We started out encouraged by two new and potentially long-term workers joining our team. However, for various reasons, it did not work out, and they both left after a few months. Praise the Lord, just before one of them left for university, I received a request from a young lady looking for a job at CLC. I was initially doubtful and not very keen to respond. However, after the request came a second time a few days later, I had to recognise this to be a serious intention and invited her for an interview. It turned out that this was indeed a serious intention, and God certainly answered our prayer. We were grateful to welcome Denisa, a university graduate, onto the team.

We don’t have the resources to run many book tables, but Daniela, the CLC Timisoara Manager, had a book table at a university in Arad. In Brasov, we held a book table which, although not as successful as we had hoped, gave us the opportunity to distribute, freely, 100 Gideon New Testaments.

We made progress during the year with our publishing, printing two titles and preparing four other books for print.

CLC started in Romania in 1991. Back then it was working from a small office in a village near Brasov, and a shared shop space with another bookshop in the main city square in Brasov. In 1998, CLC Romania relocated to its own building, 5 minutes from the town centre. The new facilities include a storage area in a large attic, shop on the main floor and space for a coffee shop in the basement. CLC operated a small coffee shop there for a while but had to close it.

Brasov is a very touristic county in the centre of Romania. CLC Romania has another shop in Timisoara, west-Romania. We mostly operate through these two bookshops and website orders. The website orders often amount to the sales of our main shop in Brasov.

CLC Romania also published a few titles, including Spirit-Controlled Temperament by Tim LaHaye, What happens when women pray by Evelyn Christenson, Tender Warrior by Stu Weber as well as a number of books by Billy Graham, Andrew Murray, Paul Tournier and more.

The publishing operations are in process of being expanded. We are looking to increase the number of published books and to bring the publishing operation to a self-sustaining state.

Website orders are growing as more and more Romanians are moving their purchasing online. The website has been online since November 2003 and is the best-ranked Christian online shop in Romania in search engines. There's always room for improvement, however. In 2004, the system developed in Romania for e-commerce and POS has been made available for use around the world in CLC International and a number of CLC countries are also using it to sell online.
