“CLC and the Bible League in Ecuador have joined together in a project to encourage and equip Christians in communities hidden away within the Amazon Jungle in Eastern Ecuador. The main aim of this newly formed partnership is to train Christian leaders, and provide materials for evangelism and discipleship. In April of 2009 a first visit was made to the village of Tena by two members of CLC, Carlos Marin and Josue Campo, plus two members of the Bible League, Milton & Cristian Bustos.
Some of the indigenous Ecuadorians who were at the meetings had travelled 2 or 3 days to be there! It was a joy and blessing to hear their testimonies and to be able to provide them with Bibles, books, and evangelistic materials to help them take the good news of Jesus Christ to other villages where the Gospel is not yet known. As this was an initial visit we were able to introduce the people to the work and ministry of CLC and leave a selection of books for their library. These people are very careful that outsiders are not there to exploit them and we wanted them to understand exactly what we stand for, and why we want to visit them, before returning later in the year with a book table.
We have, however, been able to leave a good quantity of Bibles and books for sale or return in another village, Riobanba, which is about four hours by road from Tena. It has been a real encouragement for us to be invited to co-operate with other ministries that share our calling to reach people with the Word of God. Please pray for the future of this particular project and that our vision for, and commitment to these people will remain firm. Pray too that the Christian leaders in these communities will be encouraged and faithful in their task of taking the Gospel to their neighbours. We are trusting that this will lead to more opportunities in the future as there is a great shortage of the Word of God in the huge rural areas of Ecuador, as well as great poverty and physical need.”
